The one to know
The full-distance IRONMAN is coming to Mossel Bay
After 21 years in Nelson Mandela Bay, the full-distance Isuzu IRONMAN will move to Mossel Bay and take place on Sunday, 18 April 2027.
The swim is planned to start and finish around Santos Beach and the De Bakke resort precinct. The bike leg will use Garden Route and coastal roads, while the marathon will take in coastal and urban sections.
General registration opens on Wednesday, 12 August 2026. For residents and businesses, the important missing piece is the exact route: no detailed course map, road-closure plan or access arrangement was published with Tuesday’s announcement.
Around the Bay
Tergniet has a seven-hour outage scheduled today
The municipality plans to interrupt power from 09:00 to 16:00 in portions of Van Rensburg Street, Kus Road, 3rd Avenue and surrounding streets.
If weather prevents the work, the fallback is Thursday, 6 August. Switch off geysers during the interruption and wait 30 minutes after restoration before switching them on again. Treat all installations as live throughout.
Voter registration closes Friday night
Eligible voters who missed the weekend registration drive can still register or update their details until midnight on Friday, 7 August.

Petrol falls; diesel goes the other way
From today, 93 and 95 petrol are 52c/l cheaper. Diesel is moving in the opposite direction: 500 ppm diesel rises by R1.38/l, while lower-sulphur 50 ppm diesel rises by R1.23/l. Paraffin also rises by R1.52/l.
The simple takeaway: petrol drivers will save a little at the pump, while diesel drivers will pay noticeably more.
The 2027 school-transfer window is open
Parents applying to transfer learners in Grades 2–7 or 9–12 for the 2027 school year have until Monday, 17 August.
Online applications are limited to specified cases such as the learner reaching the highest grade offered by the current school, a parent’s work relocation or a change of residential address. Other transfer reasons must be submitted directly to the school or district.

A little good news
Old frames and bottle caps can help someone else
Unused spectacle frames can now be dropped at Sonja van Graan’s practice in the Hartenbos Spar centre, Spec-Savers at Hartenbos Seefront, Mark E at Langeberg Mall, or Moss Ink in Voorbaai or Mossel Bay. The frames are intended to help residents who struggle with the cost of getting spectacles.
Plastic bottle caps can go into the metal heart outside Hartenbos Spar. They will be recycled as part of a project working towards wheelchairs.
