A dedicated Western Cape Police Ombudsman satellite office has opened in Mossel Bay
The Garden Route’s first dedicated Western Cape Police Ombudsman satellite office was officially launched at the Mossel Bay Joint Operations Centre on Wednesday.
The Ombudsman independently investigates complaints about police inefficiency and poor service delivery. Complaints may be submitted by residents, visitors and foreign nationals - not only permanent local residents.
The official service operates on weekdays from 07:00–16:00. Complaints can be lodged by calling 021 483 0669, emailing [email protected], or completing the online form.
Before submitting, gather the relevant dates, police station or unit details, officer information where available and supporting documents. The online form also requires identification to be uploaded.

Great Brak gets the final growth meeting tonight
The final public meeting in the current series on Mossel Bay’s 2027 Spatial Development Framework takes place tonight from 18:00–19:00 at Greenhaven Community Hall, 21 Marigold Street, Great Brak River.
The framework guides longer-term decisions about growth, development and land use. Residents who cannot attend may still submit written input during the formal comment period.
Why Diaz Beach has not reopened yet
Sections of Diaz Beach have remained inaccessible since serious flood damage in May created dangerous conditions.
The municipality says council has allocated up to R20 million for dune stabilisation and restoration. The delay is not simply a matter of sending machinery onto the beach: the municipality must first complete the environmental and legal processes required for work in the coastal zone.
For now, residents should continue to respect the restricted-access areas rather than assuming that a quiet-looking section is safe.
The weekend changes gear
Friday is expected to be the warm one, reaching roughly 26°C. Saturday and Sunday cool to around 18°C, with a mixture of cloud and sunshine currently forecast.

Great Brak notices the quiet work
Sunita Louw of Child Welfare SA Great Brak River has received a Women’s Appreciation Award from the Great Brak River Community Policing Forum.
Louw works as a social auxiliary worker and community development officer. Her work includes life-skills lessons at local schools, holiday programmes with community partners, and sessions for parents and children on safety and family issues.
It is the kind of work that is rarely loud enough to dominate a news feed - but it changes what support looks like for local children and families
