Voter registration closes at midnight
If you have never registered, or you have moved since the last election, Friday is the last day to register or update your address before the 2026 Local Government Elections on 4 November.
Use the IEC’s online registration portal, or WhatsApp “Hi” to 0600 88 0000. To check your status, SMS myID followed by your ID number to 32810. The IEC contact centre is 0800 11 8000 if you get stuck.
Your address matters in a municipal election because you vote where you are registered. This deadline was mentioned earlier in the week; today it has earned one final nudge because “I meant to do that” stops working at midnight.

May/June exam results are out from 10:00
The Western Cape Education Department will release the May/June 2026 National Senior Certificate and Senior Certificate results from 10:00 on Friday. Candidates can collect results from the school or designated centre where they wrote, or access them online. The examination helpline is 0861 819 919, option 2, from 07:30–16:00.
Keep Sunday plans in pencil
The Garden Route was under an advisory - not a formal warning - this morning for colder conditions, rain, gusty winds and possibly rough seas from Sunday into Monday. Friday and Saturday currently look like the better outdoor days. Keep Sunday travel and coastal plans flexible, and check the the weather before leaving home.
Store some water before Tuesday
Water supply in Midbrak and Great Brak River may be partly or completely interrupted from 08:00–16:00 on Tuesday, 11 August while municipal work is carried out. Fill drinking-water containers on Monday and use water sparingly during the work. If the weather is unfavourable, the job moves to Wednesday, 12 August.

A little good news
FC Milan’s women soccer are going provincial
Mossel Bay’s FC Milan women have been promoted to the Safa Western Cape Provincial Women’s League for the 2026/27 season after finishing second in the provincial play-offs. They beat Warriors Academy 3–0 on the way there.
The step up also brings a bigger travel and accommodation bill, and the coach has asked local stakeholders to support the team. We will share a verified support route if one is published. Read about the promotion.
