Six-hour outage planned for part of Island View
Residents and businesses in a portion of Henning Road, Island View, should prepare for a planned electricity interruption on Tuesday, 4 August, from 09:00–15:00.
The municipality says the work is weather-dependent. Should conditions prevent it from proceeding on Tuesday, the interruption will move to Wednesday, 5 August.
Charge essential devices beforehand, make alternative work arrangements where needed and consider switching off sensitive equipment before supply is restored.
The municipality has also asked consumers to switch off geysers to reduce the load when electricity returns.

Growth meetings begin in D’Almeida tonight
The municipality’s public meetings on Mossel Bay’s proposed 2027 Spatial Development Framework begin at the D’Almeida Community Hall tonight from 18:00–19:00.
The programme moves to Mossel Bay Town Hall on Tuesday, KwaNonqaba and Asla on Wednesday, and Hartenbos on Thursday. These meetings concern the long-term planning framework used to guide where and how the municipal area develops.

The Hartenbos heated pool is open again
The heated pool at the ATKV Hartenbos Seefront reopened on Friday after being closed since September 2024 because of structural problems involving the roof.
Day visitors pay R40 for a two-hour swimming session, while people staying at ATKV Hartenbos receive free access. The pool opens at 08:30 throughout the year.
Outside peak holiday periods, it closes at 18:00 from Sunday to Thursday and 20:30 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Mountain View questions remain unresolved
The Mossel Bay Municipality has responded to a memorandum concerning the Mountain View housing project, but the dispute over empty homes, allocations and access to information continues.
The project includes 278 First Home Finance units, of which the Advertiser reports only 36 are occupied. Financing difficulties have been identified as a major reason many units remain empty.
A recently approved instalment-sale model is intended to allow qualifying beneficiaries to occupy homes while working towards ownership. The provincial department expects many units to be occupied by the end of 2026, with the remainder following early next year.
A chilly Women’s Day weekend may be coming
The current forecast points to a warm Friday followed by a substantially colder and windier Saturday, with some rain possible over the weekend.
Forecasts can still shift considerably this far out, so do not cancel the braai yet. Just avoid making Plan A entirely dependent on dry grass and obedient clouds.

A little good news
Sixteen Mossel Bay gymnasts are heading to provincials
All 16 MATT Gymnastics athletes who competed at the Eden trials on 18 July qualified to represent the region at the Western Cape tumbling and trampoline championships.
Together, the gymnasts earned 26 medals across the different disciplines. The provincial championships will take place in Brackenfell from 28–30 August.
